Fenwick & West LLP Welcomes New Corporate Partner Daniel A. Dorosin to Emerging Company Practice

April 16, 2001 (Palo Alto, CA) - Building on a year of record success in 2000, Fenwick & West announced today that Daniel A. Dorosin, 40, has joined the firm as a partner in the Corporate Group, where he will focus on advising venture-backed start-up companies. Dorosin, who has an extensive background both in the law and as a business development executive, brings a unique blend of experience to the 120-lawyer Corporate Group.

"Dan's background as a first rate lawyer and successful businessman is the perfect combination for our practice," remarked Corporate Group Chairman Dennis DeBroeck. "First and foremost, Dan is a tremendous lawyer and advocate for his clients - but his business development experience will also be invaluable to us in advising start-up companies that need practical, business-oriented legal advice."

Dorosin began his legal career with the law firm of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich, where he was elected partner in 1993. Following that, he went on to work with various start-up businesses in a general counsel and/or business development capacity, including Crystal Dynamics, CIDCO Incorporated and Instill Corporation. In addition to his work as an attorney and company executive, he has served as a consultant to a number of high-technology companies, including Portera, GetThere, Virage, WebTV, Calico Commerce and Excite@Home.

"We have worked with and opposite Dan in various capacities for over ten years. In addition to being an outstanding lawyer, he has shown an incredible ability to build working relationships in the business and venture capital communities," remarked firm Chairman Gordon Davidson. "Dan has a deep understanding of how deals get done in the Silicon Valley - which we think will make him an invaluable asset as we continue to grow our start-up company practice."

Dorosin's decision to return to a Silicon Valley law practice grew out of the recognition that his business experience would be extremely valuable to early-stage start-ups. "In Silicon Valley, emerging companies need lawyers who can solve business problems from both a legal and a practical perspective," remarked Dorosin. "Fenwick provides a perfect platform for me to leverage my experience into valuable advice for their early stage start-up clients."

Dorosin graduated with a BA in Economics, with distinction, from Stanford University in 1982 and received his law degree from UCLA in 1986.
