Mountain View, CA (June 4, 2014)– Fenwick & West is pleased to announce that the firm has been honored for exemplary commitment to pro bono work along with our client Facebook by the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County for our longstanding partnership on Share of Cost Clinics.
A team of pro bono volunteers from Fenwick and Facebook join the Legal Aid Society each month to advise low-income seniors and disabled adults on how to qualify for affordable healthcare coverage. The clinic particularly serves individuals and families whose income puts them slightly above the Federal Poverty Level, but is nonetheless insufficient to cover their healthcare expenses in addition to basic necessities.
“Partnering with Facebook and Legal Aid in a way that benefits seniors, disabled adults and others in need of access to legal services and affordable healthcare is extremely rewarding,” said partner Pat Premo, chair of Fenwick’s Pro Bono Program. “This is a wonderful program and we’re honored and proud to support it.”
Volunteers from Fenwick and Facebook have provided a total of 627 hours of legal assistance to vulnerable San Mateo County residents since the start of the partnership.
“Fenwick & West’s synergy demonstrates the powerful pro bono force that can exist when law firms, companies and non-profits team up to improve lives,” the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County said in a statement.
Fenwick and Facebook both recognize pro bono work is not only an integral aspect of professional responsibility, but an excellent opportunity for attorneys to gain valuable practical experience, learn new areas of law and contribute to the community.
“Although I was out of my element and doing something so different from my daily practice, the support from Fenwick & West and the training and guidance from Legal Aid made it amazing and comfortable,” said Mike Yaghmai, associate general counsel at Facebook.
Honorees were recognized at an awards luncheon on April 25 in East Palo Alto.
