Fenwick & West’s China Practice Grows

M&A Practitioner Niping Wu Joins the Firm

Mountain View, CA (January 20, 2015) – Fenwick & West, a leading technology and life sciences law firm, today announced that Niping Wu has joined the firm as a Corporate partner in its Shanghai office. Wu represents international funds and multi-national companies in private equity, strategic M&A and debt financing transactions, as well as joint venture projects in China. She also represents Chinese companies in outbound investments and in the past has led legal work for Chinese issuers on initial public offerings in the United States.

“Sustained activity in cross-border investments and M&A in the technology sector is driving increased demand for our services in China,” said Richard Dickson, Chairman of Fenwick & West. “Niping’s arrival will help us expand our offerings in China. She is a very strong addition to our team.”

“We welcome Niping to Fenwick,” said Eva Wang, Shanghai Managing Partner. “She has a stellar background and excellent experience in private equity, cross-border M&A, debt financings and capital markets.”

Wu explained, “I was drawn to Fenwick because of the firm’s preeminent M&A and capital markets practices in the technology sector, its deep experience in start-up company and venture capital services, its IP expertise and the firm’s strong team in China. My practice integrates well with Fenwick’s strong deal execution capabilities and significant work on going private transactions.”

“Niping is joining us at the perfect time,” said Gordon Davidson, Fenwick’s former chairman and China practice lead. “Mounting interest among foreign investors in Silicon Valley technology companies is yet another trend driving demand for our services in China.”

Since opening an office in Shanghai, Fenwick has worked on many financing transactions, strategic investments, more than $5.5 billion in acquisitions in China in the past year alone, three going-private deals, and extensive intellectual property counseling.

Prior to joining Fenwick, Wu worked for other prominent U.S. law firms and has been practicing law in China for over a decade. Wu earned her JD from Yale Law School where she was editor of the Yale Journal of International Law. She also completed her undergraduate degrees at Yale University in computer science and economics, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Wu is admitted to practice law in Hong Kong and in New York. She is fluent in English as well as in Chinese.
