Fenwick’s Karen Webb Honored Among Silicon Valley Business Journal 40 Under 40

Webb is One of Only Five Lawyers Honored on the List of Top Business Leaders

July 20, 2017

Silicon Valley Business Journal has honored trademark partner Karen Webb as one of the top 40 leaders under age 40 in Silicon Valley for 2017. The annual list recognizes exceptional business leaders for their contributions to their industries and communities.

“Established companies and fresh startups alike have sought out Fenwick & West partner Karen Webb to handle brand strategy and the protection of brand assets,” the Journal noted in its profile of Webb. “With extensive experience in the social media and Internet space, she advises platforms in trademark matters and helps brand owners navigate social media.”

The Journal highlighted her work for leading technology companies including Facebook, Fitbit and Twitter—who Webb represented in their first trademark-related lawsuit. She now collaborates with Twitter’s in-house lawyers to strengthen their U.S. trademark portfolio.

“I am passionate about innovation and creating new technology as part of my trademark practice and thinking about how we can change the legal practice,” Webb told the Journal when asked to describe her biggest professional achievement thus far. “We’ve already built our own platform that syncs client data and files, instantly and automatically uploads emails, all with 24/7 access—and we have more tools launching soon.”

In addition to her work counseling companies on brand strategy and protecting their brand assets, Webb also devotes substantial time to pro bono service, the Journal noted.

“In 2016 alone, she provided trademark counsel to the Center for WorkLife Law, aided low-income Bay Area families in preparing tax returns through Tax-Aid, and volunteered at the Election Protection center,” the Journal reported.

Webb has earned significant recognition as a leading trademark lawyer. In 2017, World Trademark Review 1000 again honored her as a leading California lawyer for prosecution and strategy as well as enforcement and litigation. Who’s Who Legal also named Webb among the globe’s top trademark lawyers. Additionally, Euromoney also honored her among the shortlist finalists for Best in Trademark at their Americas Women in Business Law Awards.
