Represented Amazon.com in asserting its 1-Click® patent against Barnesandnoble.com. Following a several day trial in the Western District of Washington, in December 1999 Amazon.com was granted a preliminary injunction that precluded Barnesandnoble.com's use of the invention during the 1999 and 2000 Holiday selling seasons. The preliminary injunction is largely credited with establishing the significance of business method patents.
The case was settled prior to trial. 73 F.Supp.2d 1228 (W.D. Wa. 1999), vacated, 239 F.3d 1343 (Fed. Cir. 2001).
