Fenwick & West LLP represented Academia.edu, a company whose aim is to put every scientific research paper online in PDF form for free, in its recently announced $11.1 million Series B financing. The round was led by Khosla Ventures, and included investments from Spark Capital and True Ventures. In addition, Ben Ling of Khosla Ventures has joined the company’s board and Vinod Khosla will serve in an advisory capacity.
The new investment will help the company continue to take the open-access model to the extreme, setting forth their goal of eliminating paywalls and long delays to make all scientific research immediately available for free. More information about Academia.edu is available on their website.
The Fenwick transaction team was led by corporate partner Ted Wang; and corporate associates Kristine Di Bacco and Morgan Sawchuk.
