Fenwick & West represented technology giant Hewlett-Packard Company in its sale of 2,400 patents to Qualcomm Incorporated, the leading seller of smartphone chips. The patent portfolio contains patents from Palm Inc., IPAQ and Bitfone, the respective developers of personal digital assistants, pocket PCs and mobile device management. Qualcomm and HP announced the portfolio covers “fundamental mobile operating system techniques,” which will strengthen and diversify Qualcomm’s mobile patent portfolio.
