Fenwick & West Secures Defense Verdict in Employment Discrimination Suit

June 12, 2006

After a three-week jury trial, Fenwick & West secured a defense verdict in Santa Clara Superior Court on behalf of its client Synopsys. The case involved claims of pregnancy discrimination, retaliation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, among others. After 17 days of trial, eight days of jury deliberations, and motions for non-suit and directed verdict, Synopsys prevailed. Judgment was entered in its favor on all claims.

Synopsys is one of the largest semiconductor companies in Silicon Valley, and this case was the first employment matter the company took to trial. "We're thrilled with the result," stated Synopsys Vice President and General Counsel Brian Cabrera, "and how the Fenwick team successfully managed the dispute to meet our business goals every step of the way."

The Fenwick & West trial team included Employment Practices chair Vic Schachter and associates Allen Kato and Mary Wang. For more information about the Fenwick & West Employment Practices Group litigation and counseling services, contact Vic Schachter at (650) 335-7905 or
