Fenwick & West Wins Technologies Deal of the Year and Cross Border M&A Deal of the Year Awards, Doug Cogen Wins M&A Lawyer of the Year

Fenwick & West LLP is pleased to announce that the firm was recently honored with two awards by the Global M&A Network – “Technologies Deal of the Year” and “Cross Border M&A Deal of the Year.” Fenwick is also pleased to announce that Douglas Cogen, Co-Chair of the firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions Group, was honored as “M&A Lawyer of the Year.” The awards were presented at the annual Americas M&A Atlas Awards Gala held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York on November 19, 2010.

Fenwick was awarded the “2010 Technologies Deal of the Year Award” (deal size above 500 million USD) for its representation of SonicWALL, Inc.’s $717 million acquisition by an investor group led by Thoma Bravo. Richard Dickson, Chair of Fenwick’s Start-ups and Venture Capital Group, and Kris Withrow, Partner-elect in the Corporate Group, accepted the award on behalf of the firm. The SonicWALL team was led by Richard Dickson, and also included attorneys Dan Winnike, David Michaels, Kris Withrow, Edgar Tirado, Aaron Sokoloff, Patrick Kelly, Kee Kim, Jessie Minier, Elizabeth Gartland, Scott Spector, John Ludlum, Mark Ostrau, Jay Pomerantz, Kevin Muck, Stephen Gillespie, Greg Sato, Aaron Weiss, Stefano Quintini and Genelle Ng.

Fenwick also won the “2010 Cross Border M&A Deal of the Year Award” (deal size above 250 million USD) for its representation of Diamond Foods, Inc.’s $615 million acquisition of Kettle Foods, makers of the premium potato chips, from Lion Capital. Doug Cogen, Co-Chair of Fenwick’s M&A Group, accepted the award on behalf of the firm. The Diamond team was led by Doug Cogen, and also included attorneys Horace Nash, David Michaels, Lynda Twomey, Kee Kim, Aaron Hou, Sam Kwak, Ruomu Li, Katherine Duncan, Mona Clee, Gerald Audant, Mark Ostrau, Stuart Meyer, Pauline Farmer-Koppenol, Puneet Sarna, Connie Ellerbach, Ron Schrotenboer and Amanda Athanasiou.

Doug Cogen won the “2010 M&A Lawyer of the Year Award.” In addition to leading the Diamond M&A team in 2010, Mr. Cogen also helped advise ArcSight, Inc. in its $1.5 billion acquisition by Hewlett-Packard Company; Cisco Systems, Inc.’s acquisitions of Starent Networks for $2.9 billion, Arch Rock Corporation, CoreOptics Inc. and MOTO Development Group; and Synopsys, Inc.’s acquisition of Virage Logic Corporation. Mr. Cogen was previously named by the Los Angeles Daily Journal and San Francisco Daily Journal as one of the Top 100 Attorneys in the State of California, named by Best Lawyers as one of the Best Lawyers in America in M&A and by Lawdragon as one of the 500 Leading Dealmakers in the U.S.

The M&A Atlas Awards program honors leaders, top deals, influential industry executives and law firms for transactions from North and South Americas mergers and acquisitions communities. It is presented by the Global M&A Network, which produces M&A and alternative investing-centered conferences and awards in various international markets.
