New Fenwick Office is ‘Just the Start’ in Boston, Heidi Erlacher Tells Managing IP

Fresh off opening Fenwick’s new Boston office—and the excitement of BIO International Conference 2025—partner Heidi Erlacher sat down with Managing IP to discuss Fenwick’s growth in Boston, passion for life sciences, and beyond.

“It was just the right time to open the office and commit to the life sciences companies here in the area,” she told Managing IP. “It’s easier to meet with your clients in person when you have an office. And Boston is the place to be if you want to show your commitment to life sciences companies.”

Erlacher, who helms the office alongside fellow IP partners Matthew Pavao and Chen Chen, said Fenwick’s culture and deliberate growth strategy in this space were major draws. And with additions like executive compensation partner Jim Hauser, the office is poised to help clients grow far beyond IP prosecution—with services like start-up counselling, corporate and regulatory work, and IP litigation.

“Strategic counselling touches on so many different aspects of legal work, and it’s central to many different practice groups here,” she said. “We want this to be a full-service office.”
