October 30, 2007 (Mountain View and San Francisco, CA) – Fenwick & West is pleased to announce that Darryl M. Woo has been elected as Chair of the Litigation Group, effective January 1, 2008.
Darryl joined Fenwick & West in 2000 and, for the past three years, has been the Patent Litigation Group Chair.
During his career with Fenwick & West, Darryl has secured numerous litigation victories for his clients. Recent successes include a $74.7 million jury verdict in the Northern District of California on behalf of Asyst Technologies, and a defense summary judgment in Boston for a client's product having more than 250 million users worldwide.
Darryl has been recognized by his peers and the legal media for his achievements. In September 2007, he was named one of California's "Top 100 Lawyers" by the Daily Journal. He has been selected as a "Super Lawyer" in Northern California for the past three years (2005-2007).
Darryl was recognized with a "Fenwick's Finest" award in 2006 for Outstanding Role Model in Corporate Citizenship. He is involved with the legal profession as the Vice Chair of the Programs Committee of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, Northern California chapter. Darryl has also served in leadership roles in the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area, as well as in a variety of community non-profit causes.
Darryl has lectured often on trial practice techniques, patent and IP litigation strategy and other substantive topics for the Practising Law Institute, the Continuing Education of the Bar – California, and other organizations. Darryl was recently featured as a panelist for the Patent Litigation Roundtable, published in the July 2007 issue of California Lawyer. He is closely involved with the production, administration and teaching of external and internal training sessions, including a participant's role in Fenwick & West's Patent Law Year in Review program and will be featured along with two other partners in Allen & Overy's Patent Masterclass in London.
Darryl received his J.D. from Georgetown University in 1981 and his bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977.
With Darryl's taking on the role of Litigation Group Chair, Charlene M. Morrow will become Chair of the Patent Litigation group, which currently has over 38 members. Charlene has been in practice in the Silicon Valley since 1989, where she represents a variety of software and semiconductor clients. She has an active trial practice including recent victories in patent trials in California and Delaware.
