Fenwick Elects Six New Partners

Mountain View, CA (October 30, 2015) – Fenwick & West today announced the election of six attorneys to the partnership, effective January 1, 2016. The new equity partners are Dohyun (“David”) Ahn, Eric Ball, Dawn Belt, Kristine M. Di Bacco, Bryan A. Kohm and Ken S. Myers.

Dohyun ("David") Ahn focuses on patent strategy, patent prosecution, portfolio development and patent litigation. He has extensive experience in building and managing strategic patent portfolios for acquisition, IPO and enforcement. His clients include Synopsys, Lattice Semiconductor, Numenta, Veeco ALD and LG Display. In 2015, he represented Silicon Image, a leading provider of wired and wireless technology, in its acquisition by Lattice Semiconductor. Ahn earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois, College of Law where he graduated cum laude. He also earned an M.S. in Electronic Engineering from Hanyang Graduate School of Engineering and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul National University.

Eric Ball represents technology clients in trademark litigation and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board disputes. He has substantial experience in trade secret, copyright and complex commercial litigation matters. Ball’s legal insights have been quoted in leading national and legal publications including Bloomberg BNA and Corporate Counsel. He obtained a permanent injunction and the transfer of 25 domain names against a telecommunications company. Ball also has multiple summary judgment wins in trademark litigation, TTAB and trade secret cases. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law where he graduated with honors and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Ball also earned his B.A. in Rhetoric and Legal Studies from University of California, Berkeley with honors.

Dawn Belt advises technology companies including Dropbox, Facebook, GoPro, Nimble Storage and ServiceNow on a broad range of corporate transactional matters, including startup counseling, venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, SEC compliance and corporate governance. Her transactions this year include representing BuzzFeed in its $200 million financing, Corium in its $52 million follow-on public offering, Altschool in its $100 million financing, Google Capital in leading a $100 million equity investment in CrowdStrike and Sony Corporation in its acquisition of Optical Archive Inc. Belt earned her J.D./M.B.A from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and Haas School of Business, where she was Order of the Coif, and her B.A. in Economics and American Studies from Stanford University.

Kristine M. Di Bacco represents high-growth technology companies in all aspects of general corporate and securities law, with a focus on the consumer internet, e-commerce, social networking and software sectors. Her practice ranges from the formation of new startup companies through venture capital financings to public offerings and mergers & acquisition transactions. Di Bacco has represented leading technology companies including Facebook, GoPro and WeWork. Di Bacco also represents leading venture capital firms and accelerators such as Rock Health. Di Bacco frequently lectures on startup issues and venture capital investments at Stanford University and the University of Southern California. She earned her J.D. from McGill University magna cum laude. She also holds an M.B.A. from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario cum laude.

Bryan A. Kohm litigates intellectual property disputes for technology and life science companies, with a focus on patent infringement and trade secret claims. From assisting Virgin Mobile in obtaining a complete defense victory in a trade secret action to obtaining a trial verdict of infringement for Silver Peak Systems in a patent infringement action concerning network optimization technology, Kohm resolves disputes for leading innovators. Kohm was named a “Rising Star” in IP litigation in Northern California by Super Lawyers in both 2013 and 2014. Kohm earned his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law where he was an editor for the Santa Clara Computer and High Technology Law Journal. He also holds a B.A. in Philosophy from New York’s Hamilton College.

Ken S. Myers focuses his practice on strategic transactions and mergers and acquisitions, including public and private mergers, investments, joint ventures, stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures for both U.S. and foreign technology companies. He regularly advises Cisco Systems, Facebook and Lending Club in their acquisitions. Last year, Myers and a Fenwick team served as counsel to the special committee of the board of directors of Giant Interactive Group Inc. in Giant’s $3 billion going-private transaction, which was recognized as The American Lawyer’s China’s Global M&A Deal of the Year, the China Law Business Journal Deal of the Year and Global M&A Network’s Asia Pacific Private Equity Deal of the Year. Myers earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he graduated cum laude and served as the managing technical editor for the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology. He received his B.B.A. with high distinction from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
