Mountain View, Calif. (December 12, 2014) – Fenwick & West is pleased to announce that Seattle-based corporate social responsibility (CSR) practice group chair Ashley Walter has been named to the Sustainability Accounting Standard Board’s (SASB) Legal Advisory Council, effective December 1, 2014.
The SASB is a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization focused on establishing industry-based sustainability standards for the recognition and disclosure of material environmental, social and governance impacts in SEC filings by companies traded on U.S. exchanges. As a member of its Legal Advisory Council, Walter will focus on advising the SASB with respect to ongoing and novel legal issues related to the SASB’s standards-setting work.
“A shift towards more widespread and more robust environmental, social and governance disclosure may prove to be the most significant corporate social responsibility-related development of the decade,” said Walter. “I am honored to be involved in advising the SASB with respect to the legal implications of their groundbreaking standards-setting work in this field.”
Walter advises technology companies on a wide variety of corporate and securities law matters, including formations, venture capital financings, commercial arrangements, mergers and acquisitions and public offerings. He helps his clients comply with corporate social responsibility-related legal requirements and provides advice with respect to the development of CSR strategies. His current and prior CSR clients include Amazon.com, Broadcom, Cisco Systems, Cray, Netgear and Spreadtrum Communications.
Earlier this year, Walter was selected to chair the Corporate Social Responsibility Law Task Force of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section. Founded by Walter, the task force is dedicated to equipping lawyers with skills to effectively counsel their clients with respect to CSR-related legal matters and to advancing knowledge and expertise with respect to emerging CSR-related laws.
