April 14, 2008 (Seattle, WA) – Fenwick & West LLP, a leading technology and life sciences law firm with offices in Seattle, Silicon Valley, San Francisco and Boise, announced today the addition of Andrew T. Serafini, Ph.D., as a partner in its firmwide intellectual property group. Dr. Serafini is resident in the firm's Seattle office, where his practice focuses on strategic intellectual property counseling for life sciences companies.

Fenwick's Chairman Gordon K. Davidson stated, "Andrew is a stellar life sciences patent counselor with extraordinary credentials. He has a strong client base that includes public and private life sciences companies and major research institutions in Seattle and California as well as across the country and abroad. He is the fifth partner we have added to our Seattle office since its opening in February, joining corporate partners Stephen Graham, Alan Smith and Bill Bromfield and strategic licensing partner Roger Tolbert. We expect to continue to expand our Seattle office rapidly in life sciences as well as technology generally. We are proud to add an attorney of Andrew's quality to Fenwick & West."

Serafini said, "When I learned that Fenwick & West had opened an office in Seattle, I immediately realized that it would be the ideal platform for me to build my practice. Fenwick has a strong reputation and a robust practice in intellectual property, litigation and corporate finance for life sciences companies. In addition, I have worked with Steve, Alan and Roger on a number of mutual clients and have the highest regard for them as professionals and as people. So it was a natural decision for me. I am thrilled to become a part of this exceptional team."

Stephen Graham, who heads Fenwick's office in Seattle, stated, "Andrew's unique life sciences intellectual property skills complement perfectly the corporate and licensing capabilities of our existing Seattle partners, who have practiced in the life sciences area for decades. As a team, we are now able to bring to bear a level of technical know how, experience and judgment unmatched in the Pacific Northwest. When combined with the extraordinary resources we can draw upon from other parts of the firm, we can compete favorably anywhere in the country."

Dr. Serafini has extensive experience in patent prosecution, strategic IP counseling and management, due diligence and litigation support. Dr. Serafini provides intellectual property legal services to biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and other life sciences companies, particularly in the areas of immunology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, genomics, proteomics and protein chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medical therapeutics and medical diagnostics. His clients include emerging companies as well as public companies in the life sciences sector, as well as public and private universities and research institutions throughout the Pacific Northwest, San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California, as well as across the country and abroad.

Dr. Serafini is a member of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Washington State Patent Law Association, Licensing Executive Society, Biotechnology Industry Organization and Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association.
