October 15, 2001 (Palo Alto, CA) - Fenwick & West LLP announced today the new members of the partnership elected at the firm's annual partnership meeting convened on Saturday, October 13 in Menlo Park, California. The new partners include Samuel B. Angus, Stephen D. Gillespie, Raymond H. Hixson, Jr. and John G. Ryan.
Samuel B. Angus (San Francisco), 40, an associate in the Corporate Group was elected a member of the firm. His practice concentrates on advising start-up and venture-backed companies, equity and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions and strategic and joint venture transactions. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Angus was founder and chief executive officer of Design Look Publications, Inc., an international publisher of gift and fine art calendars. He received his J.D. in 1993 from Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. in law and society from UC Santa Barbara in 1990.
Stephen D. Gillespie (San Francisco), 37, an associate in the Intellectual Property Group was elected a member of the firm. Mr. Gillespie's work focuses on technology licensing and Internet commerce counseling. From 1994 to 1995, Gillespie served as a law clerk to the Honorable John T. Noonan, Jr., on the United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit. He received his B.A. in 1987 in rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley and his J.D. in 1994 and a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy in 1995 from Boalt Hall School of Law.
Raymond H. Hixson, Jr. (Palo Alto), 33, an associate in the Employment and Labor Law Group was elected a member of the firm. He advises and counsels employers with regard to employment termination, leaves of absence, compensation, hiring, employee agreements and personnel policies and documentation. Mr. Hixson earned an Industrial Engineering degree with highest honors in 1991 and J.D. degree summa cum laude in 1994 from the University of Tennessee where he was also elected to the Order of the Coif.
John G. Ryan (Palo Alto), 45, an associate in the Tax Group was elected a member of the firm. The emphasis of Mr. Ryan's practice is domestic and international corporate taxation. Mr. Ryan received a B.S. in mathematical sciences from University College Dublin and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley. In 1994, he received his J.D. from Stanford Law School.
