June 1, 2006 (San Francisco, CA) – Securities litigation partner Susan Muck was recently named by The Daily Journal as one of California's Top 75 Women Litigators. One of only two securities litigation attorneys to make this year's list, The Daily Journal highlighted Muck's recent dismissal for InVision Technologies Inc., a Newark-based company that sells airport security screening systems. Fenwick & West also successfully defended the company against DOJ and SEC Foreign Corrupt Practice Act investigations. In advocating on behalf of InVision, Muck told The Daily Journal, "We did not want the client to be another monolithic, faceless entity accused of fraud."
Additionally, as part of the Top Women Litigators supplement, Muck's recovery from breast cancer two years ago was also featured in an article on turning points in women's careers. Muck said her experience gave her resolve to take on more difficult cases and made her more empathetic toward clients.
"It's really hard [for opposing counsel] to scare a woman who's had breast cancer by hanging up on her or yelling at her," Muck said. "I spend lots of time with white boards and flow charts ... laying things out for clients. They want to know what is going to happen to them in the same way I wanted to know what was going to happen to me."
