Fenwick & West was founded in 1972 in the heart of Silicon Valley—before “Silicon Valley” existed—by four visionary lawyers who left a top-tier New York law firm to pursue their shared belief that technology would revolutionize the business world and to pioneer the legal work for those technological innovations. In order to be most effective, they decided they needed to move to a location close to primary research and technology development. These four attorneys opened their first office in downtown Palo Alto, and Fenwick became one of the first technology law firms in the world.  MORE >

Fenwick & West Securities Litigation Practice Expands

May 20, 2004 (Mountain View, CA) - Fenwick & West LLP is pleased to announce that Dean S. Kristy and Kevin P. Muck are joining the firm as partners in the Litigation Group effective immediately.

"Each year, Fenwick & West adds strategic lateral partners to our firm. Dean and Kevin will help solidify our talent roster with top-tier capabilities in class action and securities litigation, particularly within the greater technology arena," said Firm Chairman Gordon K. Davidson. "We have had the opportunity to get to know Dean and Kevin over the past year through client interaction. We have been struck not just by their excellence as lawyers and litigators, but by their natural fit for the Fenwick & West culture and platform."

"We feel like this transition will bring us greater opportunities to take on the most interesting securities and governance representations," commented Dean Kristy. "The synergies between our practices are strong and we are very excited to join a native Silicon Valley firm with a powerful corporate practice that feels like such a perfect platform for us."

"As we got to know each other better," commented Kevin Muck, "the momentum to make this change just became irresistible. We are particularly attracted to Fenwick & West because of its preeminent position and strong client relationships in the high technology community. Their strategic positioning is an ideal fit for our practice."

Dean Kristy, 45, brings extensive expertise in litigating securities matters and fiduciary duty cases arising out of mergers and acquisitions, as well as antitrust and unfair competition cases. He has represented a wide range of domestic and international clients, including technology, pharmaceutical, and entertainment, underwriters and accounting firms.

Kristy is admitted to practice in California and New York. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, Law Review, in 1983 from Syracuse University College of Law and his B.A., with high honors, in 1980 from the University of Illinois.

Kevin Muck, 43, has a practice that emphasizes defending issuers, officers, directors, underwriters and venture capital firms in shareholder class actions and derivative litigation throughout the country. He also has extensive experience representing companies and individuals in investigations brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission and self-regulatory organizations including the National Association of Securities Dealers and the New York Stock Exchange.

Muck is admitted to practice in California. He received his J.D. in 1985 from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California and his B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1982 from Santa Clara University.

Both Kristy and Muck have previously practiced law as partners at Clifford Chance and, prior to that, Brobeck Phleger & Harrison.
