Human Rights Campaign Says Fenwick Supports LGBT Workplace Equality

Mountain View, CA (November 19, 2015) – Fenwick & West is pleased to announce that for the seventh consecutive year the firm received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workplace equality. Fenwick joins the ranks of 407 major U.S. businesses that earned top marks this year. The firm is also recognized among a small pool of business that offer transgender-inclusive healthcare coverage.

“Fenwick is run by people who really care about the individual,” said Diversity & Inclusion Committee co-chair Felix Lee. “We’re constantly striving to be better, more inclusive. We believe that everyone deserves equal opportunities to succeed at Fenwick regardless of race, sexual orientation or gender.”

“We support each other here and enjoy working together,” said Director of Attorney Recruiting & Diversity Julieta Stubrin. “But it’s important to add formal structures, so 15 years ago, Fenwick launched a Diversity & Inclusion Committee to engage in initiatives like the Pride Law Fund, one of the oldest LGBT legal advocacy and education groups in the U.S., internal mentoring programs and affinity groups.”

“In this 2016 Corporate Equality Index, hundreds of major businesses responded to our new standards for workplace equality with exceptional leadership,” said HRC Foundation Workplace Equality Program Director Deena Fidas. “Fenwick not only meets these standards, it goes above and beyond the call of duty, making commitment to equality a fundamental aspect of its corporate values."

The 2016 CEI evaluated LGBT-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBT community. Fenwick’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.

HRC is the United States’ largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

HRC invites American Lawyer magazine’s top 200 revenue-grossing law firms and Fortune magazine’s 1,000 largest publicly-traded businesses to participate in the Corporate Equality Index every year. Launched in 2002, this year, 1,027 businesses were rated in the report. The full report is available through the HRC website.
