Mountain View, CA (May 4, 2015) – Fenwick & West is pleased to announce that managing partner Kate Fritz, a member of the firm's IP litigation group, has been named to The National Law Journal's Outstanding Women Lawyers list, which singles out "75 of the nation's most accomplished female attorneys in the legal profession today."
The NLJ, which considers hundreds of applications, honors an elite group of women who have excelled in areas that range from their legal practice and leadership skills to their efforts to promote the representation of underserved populations and increase diversity in the legal profession.
In addition to highlighting her IP litigation practice, the NLJ notes that Fritz "equates change with success, especially in Silicon Valley." It points to management innovations she has brought to Fenwick during her eight years as managing partner, including a flexible pricing practice that accommodates the varying needs and budgets of the firm's clients.
"I've been told I'm an optimist, which is a bit unusual in the legal profession where we're trained to anticipate the worst possible scenario and operate against it," Fritz said. "I’ve found that having a more positive outlook allows me to be open-minded about new opportunities and in turn fosters greater creativity and flexibility to solve a problem or pursue a larger goal."
The NLJ also emphasizes the ways in which Fritz has intensified the firm's diversity, inclusion and pro bono efforts. It notes, for example, that OneJustice, an access-to-justice nonprofit, recently named Fritz among a small group "whose outstanding accomplishments have truly moved the needle on legal services, pro bono and access to justice in California." (In 2014 alone, under Fritz's leadership, Fenwick received numerous acknowledgements of its pro bono work, including the National Legal Aid & Defender's Beacon of Justice Award, The San Francisco Business Times' Community Impact Award and a place on the NLJ's Pro Bono Hot List.)
"Being passionate is really about caring about what you do and the people working alongside you," Fritz said, adding, "It’s not just an intellectual endeavor."
Fritz's NLJ recognition is the third of its type that she has received during the past year; in September 2014, she was named to The Recorder's list of Top 50 Women Leaders in Tech Law, which honors California's leading women lawyers representing clients in the tech industry, and was just named one of The San Francisco Business Times' Most Influential Women in Business.
