Lynn H. Pasahow and J. David Hadden Join Firm

April 10, 2001 (Palo Alto, CA) - Fenwick & West announced today that patent litigators Lynn H. Pasahow, 54, and J. David Hadden, 37, have joined the firm as partners. Pasahow and Hadden, who are the latest additions to a patent litigation team that now features 7 partners and over 30 other attorneys, bring extensive trial and counseling experience to a thriving litigation practice.

"Lynn and Dave bring a depth of skill and experience to our practice that further raises the profile of our intellectual property litigation practice and strengthens our national brand in the area of patent litigation," remarked Litigation Group Chair Patricia M. Lucas. "In the past four years, we have increased from around 30 litigators to over 85 litigation attorneys. We have been growing in all practice areas of our group - but we have focused particularly on patent litigation. Patent disputes will continue to be at the center of many business and technology controversies - and Lynn and Dave will help us meet the needs of our high technology client base."

Pasahow and Hadden come to Fenwick & West from the Palo Alto offices of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen. While at McCutchen, Pasahow focused on complex intellectual property and patent litigation related to computer hardware and software and the biosciences. Pasahow and Hadden were the team that obtained a preliminary injunction enforcing Amazon.com's 1-Click patent. Pasahow's extensive trial experience also includes having led the team that obtained a jury verdict upholding Cetus' Nobel Prize-winning polymerase chain reaction patents. Hadden, a first-year partner at McCutchen, focuses on intellectual property and patent-related litigation and counseling for high technology clients including Amazon.com, Iomega and Pixar.

"Fenwick's singular technology focus, its reputation as an intellectual property powerhouse, and their impressive growth in the patent litigation group in particular allow us to leverage our experience to continue providing services to clients with the most groundbreaking patent issues," remarked Pasahow. "Fenwick & West provides a unique platform for Dave and me to grow our practices. The patent attorneys in the intellectual property group at Fenwick form a unique base of support and deep expertise."

Pasahow received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1969, and his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972. Following law school, he clerked in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Hadden is a 1986 summa cum laude graduate of Yale College, where he majored in physics, and a 1994 graduate of Yale Law School. Following law school, Hadden clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. Prior to entering law school and the practice of law, Hadden utilized his physics background as a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow, spending three years studying string theory at Princeton University - and contributed to the design of one of the first mountain bike suspension systems.
