January 13, 2003 (Mountain View, CA) – Fenwick & West LLP announced today that Lynn Pasahow had been elected Practice Group Leader of its Litigation Group effective January 10, 2003. Pasahow, 55, brings over 30 years of litigation experience and is recognized internationally as one of the most effective patent and bioscience litigators practicing today. Mr. Pasahow led the team that obtained a jury verdict upholding Cetus' patents on its Nobel Prize-winning polymerase chain reaction invention, and the team enforcing Amazon.com's 1-Click® patent against Barnesandnoble.com.
"Lynn will bring focus, energy and strategic thinking to our litigation practice at a time when our litigation practice has never been stronger," commented Firm Chairman, Gordon Davidson. "Lynn has done a superb job in building the firm's biotechnology practice not just in litigation, but across the board. He's a remarkable lawyer, mentor and leader who has the rare ability not just to be an effective leader within his own practice area, but also to make thoughtful and meaningful contributions across practices to benefit the entire firm."
Mr. Pasahow's clients have included Abbott Laboratories, Amazon.com, American Express, Aradigm, Athena Neurosciences, Celera, Cetus, Chiron, Cognos, BDM International, Eastman Kodak, Elan, First Data Corp., Genentech, Iomega, Johnson & Johnson, Large Scale Biology, Lockheed-Martin, NeXT, Pillar Point Partners, Sequus Pharmaceuticals, Stanford University, Topaz Technologies, University of California, Vysis, Warner-Lambert, and Xoma.
Pasahow, an internationally known patent and biotechnology litigator, has been most active of late in building the firm's biosciences platform. Under his leadership, the firm has attracted new biosciences partners and scientists to broaden the firm's existing strengths in the biosciences arena, including venture capital and technology transfer. Among his licensing projects is the University of California's portfolio resulting from Dr. Stanley Prusiner's prion-related research.
Mr. Pasahow is a director of the Bay Area Bioscience Center and the Alzheimer's Association of Northern California, and a member of the advisory board of the University of California's Berkeley Center for Law and Technology. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1969 and his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972. Following graduation, he was a law clerk for the Honorable A.J. Zirpoli, United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
"I look forward to the opportunity to continue building the platform that Fenwick & West has established over the past few years. I am proud to be leading such a deeply talented group of attorneys." Pasahow continued, "One of my first challenges will be to support this group as it builds its national profile based on significant accomplishments and victories on behalf of Fenwick & West clients."
Fenwick's Litigation Practice has been a focal point of firm growth over the past five years. During this time, its Litigation Practice has tripled in size. While the group's profile is built primarily on its expertise in intellectual property and employment litigation, it also has substantial expertise in general litigation, corporate securities, white collar crime and tax controversy.
Over the past months, Fenwick litigators achieved very favorable results in patent cases for Amazon, Macromedia and Handspring, as well as established a new practice focus involving internal investigations. Fenwick & West continues to have one of the strongest employment law practices in the Bay Area. Its litigators are involved in a number of high-profile intellectual property cases for Compuware, RePlay TV and Good Technology.
Established in 1972, Fenwick & West LLP is one of the nation's premier law firms providing comprehensive legal services to national and international high technology and biotechnology clients, particularly in the areas of intellectual property, venture capital and other corporate finance, joint ventures, M&A and strategic relationships, litigation and dispute resolution, antitrust, taxation and employment and labor law.
