Michael Brown, James Evans and Tyler Newby Named Top U.S. Attorneys Under 40

Mountain View, CA (April 11, 2014) – Fenwick & West is pleased to announce that partners Tyler Newby, James Evans and Michael Brown have been named among the top attorneys in the United States under the age of 40 by Law360. Newby is among only three attorneys recognized nationwide for privacy work, and Brown and Evans make up half of the list of attorneys recognized for their work in the technology industry.

Partner Tyler Newby, co-chair of Fenwick’s privacy and information security group, uses his experience working at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., as a federal prosecutor to advise high technology companies on how to balance the demands of national security and the privacy of their users. When high technology companies are caught in the regulatory cross hairs, Newby pulls from his direct knowledge from his experience with the DOJ to guide them through investigations. When a case demands it, he uses his DOJ trial experience to go to bat for his clients at trial in privacy litigation cases, where his most recent public clients include Symantec, Path, Carrier IQ and Pandora.

Partner James Evans has guided companies through some of the largest and most high-profile offerings in the technology industry, including Facebook’s $16 billion IPO, which was the largest IPO in 2012, the largest technology IPO of all time and the second largest IPO in U.S. history, Facebook's 3.8 billion follow-on offering and recently Candy Crush Saga-maker King Digital Entertainment's $500 million IPO. Over the past three years, Evans has led or co-led Fenwick teams on nearly 20 offerings, raising an aggregate of more than $23 billion.

Partner Michael Brown has played a leading role on some of the hottest mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings and equity offerings of recent years, including the $105 million Marin Software and $92.8 million Silver Spring Networks initial public offerings, ArcSight’s $1.5 billion acquisition by Hewlett-Packard and Kareo's $29.5 million growth capital financing.
