Biglaw Firm Wows with New Parental Leave Policy

Fenwick’s expanded parental leave program, which includes 16 weeks of parental bonding time that applies to attorney parents – regardless of gender or caregiver status, was recently covered in Above the Law, Law360 and The Recorder.

Above the Law called Fenwick’s new policy “an impressive new program designed to provide new parents of all genders an opportunity to bond with their new babies,” and Law360 noted that “other firms have also been making parental leave policy changes recently, although Fenwick’s 16 weeks of gender neutral leave is more generous than many other firms' recent offerings.”

“We wanted to give our people the time—and make it very clear that the firm supports them taking the time—and we feel that’s better for their long-term health personally,” Fenwick managing partner Rodger Cole told The Recorder.

Cole also talked about the firm’s network of support programs to assist new parents as they return to work, including Fenwick’s partnership with an outside provider to offer access to parenting and family therapist services and career consultants, a transition mentorship program and parents affinity group, and flexible work options.
