Brexit, Cuba and Trademarks

Fenwick trademark partner Jeff Greene spoke with Reuters about Brexit, Cuba and trademarks on a Legal Current podcast.

Cuba’s trademark system could be problematic for companies who are not proactive in registering their brands. Cuba has a “first-to-file” system, so unregistered trademarks can be held hostage by a third party if a company does not register it first. There is also uncertainty in Great Britain because EU-wide trademarks will no longer be recognized in the UK.

Greene discusses how recent events related to Brexit and Cuba will impact trademarks in their respective markets. He shares insights into how doing business in Cuba will change and what prospective and current business leaders must know and understand about the market.
