September 27, 2007 (Mountain View and San Francisco, CA) – Darryl M. Woo, Chair of Fenwick & West's Patent Litigation Group, was recently named by the Daily Journal as one of the Top 100 leading lawyers in California for 2007. The San Francisco Daily Journal and the Los Angeles Daily Journal sought nominations of attorneys who are not only top legal experts, but whose practices affected state business, politics and culture. This was an opportunity to reflect the attorneys who not only transformed the legal community, but also the community at large. The Daily Journal cited Mr. Woo's leading role in a $75 million jury verdict in a patent case for client Asyst Technologies. In addition, Mr. Woo recently obtained a defense summary judgment in Boston for a client's products having more than 250 million users worldwide. Mr. Woo's range of clients includes Cisco Systems and Google, to Redwood Shores-based Shutterfly, Inc.
Fenwick & West attorneys have handled some of the most prominent IP litigation over the past two decades, including securing one of the largest IP litigation settlements of 2005—a $400M settlement for its client Compuware against IBM—and one of the largest patent verdicts of the past fifteen months, a $74.7M patent litigation verdict for client Asyst Technologies against Jenoptik. The firm is ranked by Managing Intellectual Property as one of the top five West coast firms for IP litigation, by IP Worldwide as one of the top dozen firms that Fortune 500 companies relied on for IP litigation, and was recently awarded "Most Innovative Use of Technology by a Law Firm" by American Lawyer Media for the firm's proprietary electronic discovery tools.
