October 19, 2009 (Mountain View, CA) – Fenwick & West would like to congratulate Douglas N. Cogen for being named Dealmaker of the Week by The American Lawyer.
Cogen and the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at Fenwick & West LLP are recognized for their work on two recent M&A deals for Cisco Systems, Inc., including the $2.9 billion purchase of Starent Networks, a wireless networking technology firm, and the $3 billion bid for Tandberg, a Norwegian videoconferencing equipment maker. The negotiations regarding the Starent purchase, managed by Cogen, led to an agreement in less than two weeks.
In his 12 years at Fenwick & West, Cogen has handled up to 70 deals for Cisco, the world's leading computer networking equipment company. Cisco has launched numerous recent acquisitions, relying upon Fenwick & West to negotiate and close those deals.
Andrew Luh, a corporate partner at Fenwick who also worked on the Starent purchase, emphasized that speed is always a critical factor in closing an M&A bid. "With all the diligence being done, you worry about the deal leaking out," Luh said.
