Big Med-Tech Companies Snap Up Personalized Medicine Start-Ups

Michael Shuster, co-chair of Fenwick’s Life Sciences Group, was quoted in a Daily Journal article titled “Big Med-Tech Companies Snap Up Personalized Medicine Start-Ups.”

According to the article, the recent increase in merger and acquisition activity in the personalized medicine space appears to be made up of one-off transactions and not necessarily indicative of a flood of activity in the sector.

Shuster says that the companies acquiring start-ups in this space are particularly interested in “deep sequencing” technology, or technology that helps researchers analyze millions of gene sequences in order to predict how certain populations will react to certain biological drugs. “Acquisitions in the sector are reflective of larger biotech companies trying to get a piece of that action,” he said.
