Casey O’Neill, a former federal prosecutor with nearly a decade of experience handling complex criminal and civil matters, has joined Fenwick’s white collar and regulatory defense group as Of Counsel, in a move covered by both Law360 and Bloomberg Law.
An experienced trial lawyer, O’Neill has worked on a wide variety of cases as a prosecutor and in private practice, spanning securities fraud and insider trading, market manipulation, money laundering, bribery under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and antitrust. With Fenwick, he will represent companies and individuals in internal investigations, before regulatory agencies, and in private litigation.
Chris Steskal, the head of Fenwick’s white collar practice as well as a former federal prosecutor and Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of California told Law360 that O'Neill's experience made him an ideal addition to the firm's team, which includes three former federal prosecutors and one former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawyer.
Steskal mentioned that Fenwick has been growing a team of attorneys with regulatory experience to assist clients with internal investigations and enforcement matters involving the DOJ, SEC, and other regulators, as well as related civil litigation.
“It has been great to build the team and add lawyers like Casey while continuing to provide high-quality service to our clients,” Steskal told Law360.
Fenwick’s team of regulatory attorneys includes former DOJ Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Trial Attorney Tyler Newby, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Hanley Chew, and Mike Dicke, the Associate Regional Director for Enforcement in the SEC’s San Francisco’s regional office from 2008 to 2014.
