Fenwick & West intellectual property partner Stuart Meyer was interviewed by The Recorder regarding the firm’s new interactive database on decisions reached by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeals Board.
Fenwick's PTAB database was designed for clients and others who need to get "up to speed" on PTAB proceedings quickly, Meyer told the publication, adding that a number of clients had expressed interest in the board’s decision-making.
The database includes every PTAB decision to date and will be updated regularly with new cases. An initial user quoted by The Recorder complimented the database’s usefulness and uncluttered presentation. Users can quickly access a takeaway summary and link for each PTAB case by holding their mouse pointer over the accompanying color-coded dot.
Anyone can use the Fenwick database for free on the firm’s website. "There's no reason to be proprietary about this kind of thought leadership," Meyer told The Recorder.
In addition to spearheading the database project, Meyer has substantial experience with patent reexaminations and other post-grant disputes—including the newer patent challenges created under the America Invents Act and adjudicated by the PTAB.
