High Tech Litigation Gone Green

August 08, 2012

Fenwick & West was profiled in the Data Center Dynamics article, "High Tech Litigation Gone Green," highlighting the Firm's innovative data center in their energy efficient, state of the art facility in Mountain View, California.

The Firm's recently upgraded data center has been certified with the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Commercial Interiors at the Platinum level – the highest of its kind.

The cooling system was one of the features that scored highest on the LEED scale, as the facility relies in large part on a dedicated waterside economizer on the roof. The Firm was also recognized for their installation of an LED lighting system with automatic controls.

Dave Reno, manager of IT services at Fenwick & West, says the Firm "outgrew the space we were in," and had to expand on their previous facility.

Kevin Moore, IT Director at Fenwick & West, says the data center was designed to accommodate 10% annual growth in capacity demand for up to seven years; however, growth overall has been unpredictable with the Firm's digital storage requirements jumping substantially in the last 10 years.

"We estimate [the facility to be sufficient for] five to seven years, based on previous growth," Moore says, but he acknowledges this cannot be guaranteed.
