Law Firm Leaders: Fenwick & West’s Rodger Cole

Fenwick managing partner Rodger Cole spoke to Law360 for their “Law Firm Leaders” series about the technology and life sciences industries, how the process of pricing matters has grown more sophisticated, and Fenwick’s focus on diversity and inclusion.

Cole discussed the innovation and entrepreneurial passion that characterize the technology industry, noting, “Lawyers are all about precedents and what has happened before. And there are no cases or precedents when you're talking about digital health, autonomous vehicles, blockchain, AI or augmented reality and virtual reality. Being able to help guide clients through new issues about how old laws would apply to new technologies is super interesting.”

He explained how Fenwick delivers fee predictability to clients through innovative pricing and financial management capabilities, noting how clients have found estimates the firm provides — based on 15 years of data on various corporate and litigation matters — incredibly helpful.

Cole also emphasized Fenwick’s commitment to diversity, noting that “We strive to be as diverse as our clients and want to measure ourselves by our clients and not by other law firms.”

This year, Law360 recognized Fenwick as a top law firm for minority attorneys and minority equity partners in its 2019 Diversity Snapshot.
