Law Firm Leaders See Jumps, Bumps in 2015

January 15, 2015

Fenwick & West chairman Richard Dickson, was featured prominently in an article in The Recorder that sizes up the landscape for law firms in 2015, both in Silicon Valley and nationwide.

One of the law firm leaders sought out by the publication, Dickson predicted that 2014's record-breaking pace for  technology mergers and acquisitions will continue into 2015.

"The technology sector will continue to outperform," he said. (Through the third quarter of last year, Fenwick worked on more technology M&A deals than any other law firm in the world, according to MergerMarket.)

Beyond the transactional sector, the article also notes that firms with well-defined niche litigation practices are likely to have an edge in 2015.

This environment favors "firms that are focused, that are evolving their business model and those that are investing to create greater value to their clients to truly differentiate themselves," Dickson explained.

The Recorder story also notes that data privacy could become the fastest-growing practice area in 2015 and energy practices will probably take a hit due to dipping oil prices.
