Make Document Libraries More Manageable by 'Auto-Profiling'

September 22, 2008

Mark Gerow, Director of Applications Development at Fenwick & West, recently wrote an article for Legal Technology News that discusses why Fenwick & West and other law firms have begun to look seriously at Microsoft Office SharePoint as an alternative to the traditional legal document management system. His article explains how to create a SharePoint event handler, also known as an event receiver, which automatically tags documents as they are added to a document library.

Gerow refers to this process as "auto-profiling," and offers instructions for implementing an event profiler that will automatically execute this process. Auto-profiling enhances document libraries and significantly reduces the amount of time required to add documents to the library, promoting consistency and search-ability. This event handler is an important tool in Fenwick & West's ongoing effort to increase attorney and staff productivity.
