The Future of Digital Media Ownership

​Laurence Pulgram, Fenwick & West chair of the commercial and copyright litigation groups, was quoted in a CNBC story on the future of consumer digital media rights.

The story emphasizes that as consumers increasingly download and stream e-books, movies and music, and more players enter an increasingly segmented marketplace, the question of digital media “ownership” will continue to be in a state of flux.

One consequence, Pulgram predicted, is that regulators will focus more on halting piracy, and industry groups will likely relax a bit vis a vis small-scale sharing, such as sharing an e-book with a friend.
