To Tweet or Not to Tweet: Advice on Social Media

Karen Webb, Associate in the Intellectual Property Group of Fenwick & West LLP, recently presented at the International Trade Association's 134th Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, and was subsequently quoted in the Managing Intellectual Property article "To Tweet or Not to Tweet: Advice on Social Media".

The article discusses how companies often view social media as a threat rather than a valuable corporate tool, and how they should instead focus on developing strategies to combat cybercrime and protect their brand.

As the world moves toward the adaptation of social and mobile technologies at breakneck speed, Webb offers organizations insight into achieving a balance with such services as Twitter. “The key points are to have the proper policies in place, to be an “early adapter”, to utilize platform policies and to carefully consider when to potentially embrace or simply ignore infringement or impersonators. Staying on top of such issues can help brand owners to use social media to gain competitive advantage.”
