Prior to joining Fenwick, Hayan was an associate at a general practice law firm, where she represented life science and technology companies in patent litigation and post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Hayan received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Harvard University and conducted neuroscience research as a Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. During law school, she was a student fellow at the Stanford Center for Law and the Biosciences and served as a director of finance of Stanford Biolaw & Health Policy Society.

Hayan has published several scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as legal articles on patent law.
