American Bar Association is Trying to Address a Shortage of Trial Lawyers

Fenwick litigation partner and ABA Section of Litigation chair Laurence Pulgram spoke with Marketplace about a new ABA proposal to get more junior lawyers into the courtroom, especially given the overall shortage of trial lawyers.

Pulgram co-authored the proposal—which targets multiple aspects of the legal system, encourages judges to help new lawyers sharpen their skills and suggests law firms give less experienced lawyers more opportunities to participate in trials.

“For those of us who are in law firms and who are more experienced, we realize that we're not going to have the best talent staying with us if we don't give them the opportunities," Pulgram told Marketplace.

The ABA adopted the proposed resolution. See the complete text on the ABA website.
