Cindy Hess Honored as Trusted Advisor to Emerging Companies

Mountain View, CA (April 1, 2016) –  Fenwick & West LLP is pleased to announce that one of California’s leading news and analysis publications, The Recorder, has honored partner Cindy Hess as one of the top 10 most trusted corporate counselors on its 2016 Trusted Advisors list.

The Recorder’s Trusted Advisor awards recognize lawyers who "clients turn to for strategic counsel and valued industry insights.”

Hess, who co-chairs Fenwick’s startup and venture capital group, was one of only two lawyers honored in the emerging company category.

“I’m honored by this recognition,” Hess said. “It’s a privilege to work with such cutting-edge startups and be part of their exciting innovations from the ground up.”

In her more than 25-year career, Hess has counseled some of the hottest emerging and established technology companies, including GoPro, Lending Club, Fitbit, Nextdoor, Hightail, Zoosk, Prezi and WeWork. Companies look to Hess’s deep business and legal experience for their corporate transactional matters, from formation and venture capital financing to mergers, acquisitions and public offerings. Under Hess’ leadership, Fenwick’s startup group handled the largest U.S. technology IPOs of both 2014 and 2015, including leading Fitbit through its wildly successful $732 million IPO.

Hess places high value on building results-oriented business connections leading to many long-standing relationships with both investors and company executives. Many of these long-term clients continue to turn to Hess for counsel and representation as they move on to new companies.

As Hess said in an interview with Law360, “Having great working relationships with your clients helps you deliver better value for them, not to mention that it makes work a lot more fun to spend time with people you enjoy.”

In addition to her longstanding client relationships, Hess’ wealth of recognitions reflects her leadership, skill and innovative counsel. In 2015, The Recorder named Hess to its Women Leaders in Tech Law list for the third straight year. She is also recognized by both Best Lawyers and The Legal 500, which noted that she’s “well reputed with a range of prominent clients including Lending Club and WeWork.”

Hess’ leadership is also recognized in the broader community. This year, Silicon Valley Business Journal named Hess as one of Silicon Valley’s leading Women of Influence.
