Jennifer Bretan focuses her practice on securities class action and derivative litigation, regulatory and internal investigations and enforcement proceedings, and Section 220 litigation. Recognized by the Legal 500 as an “excellent strategist and communicator,” she has an outstanding track record of defending issuers, officers and directors in shareholder disputes. Jennifer also has extensive experience conducting internal and board investigations on financial and accounting issues, in response to whistleblower complaints and insider trading, among other topics, and has represented companies and individuals in regulatory and enforcement matters with both the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice. As an added benefit, Jennifer’s extensive pre-law career in public relations is regularly brought to bear in all of her matters, whether in setting a strategic course, developing winning arguments, guiding top executives through the tumult that often accompanies litigation and enforcement actions, or managing reputational and other issues facing her clients.
In 2013, Fenwick’s Securities Litigation team was named “Securities Litigation Department of the Year” by The Recorder.
Prior to pursuing a career in law, Jennifer was a vice president of public relations and talent manager for Untitled Entertainment, a firm representing actors and directors in New York and Los Angeles. Jennifer began her career as part of CBS Television Network’s Standards & Practices Division and later worked as a film publicist for Clein + White, where she created press campaigns for independent and studio films and filmmakers.
