Life Sciences Companies Create Demand for "Sexy" Legal Work

Stephen Graham, Fenwick & West co-chair of the life sciences practice group and managing partner of the Seattle office, was featured in the Puget Sound Business Journal in regard to an apparent upswing in biotechnology and life sciences in the Seattle area—as evidenced by a growing demand for lawyers with the expertise to help companies in the sector protect their innovations.

Graham, who for roughly 30 years has been advising biotechnology and life sciences companies, said there are "a number of exciting things happening right now that are potentially huge" for the Seattle area, "and that would include Juno Therapeutics."

Fenwick client Juno—a Seattle-based start-up developing immunotherapies for cancer patients—has raised upward of $300 million in less than a year, "making it one of the area's most successful startups in any sector," the Journal notes. Graham said the company is part of an "immune-oncology wave."
