Anna Mathai focuses her practice on technology transactions as well as other intellectual property matters for clients in a range of industries, including technology, media and health. Anna has worked with companies ranging from startups to multinational corporations on a number of IP, privacy and commercial transactions, often advising on complex matters involving mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, private equity, venture capital investments, restructuring and debt financing transactions, and bankruptcy, among others. Anna has also worked with clients in drafting a variety of IP-related agreements, including licenses, services agreements, R&D agreements, intellectual property assignments and security agreements, transition services agreements, publicity agreements, data sharing agreements and independent contractor agreements. Anna has regularly advised companies from a variety of sectors including hardware, software, cloud-computing, data, pharmaceuticals, media, advertising, consumer goods and retail, education, waste management, and food and beverage.
Prior to joining Fenwick & West, Anna was an associate at an AmLaw 100 law firm. Anna also co-founded a company focusing on the design and prototyping of technology used for a nerve-avoiding surgical instrument.
During law school, Anna was an associate editor for the Northwestern University Law Review, and the vice president for the Health Law Society. She also served on the student advisory committee assisting the government of Tanzania with reform of its evidence and criminal procedure codes, and graduated with honors for her related senior research.
