Jason Amsel focuses his practice on domestic and international patent prosecution, portfolio management and counseling for clients in a wide range of technical fields including, analog and digital electronics, power converters, wireless communications, optical communication systems, semiconductors, robotics, image/video processing, audio processing, consumer electronics, networking devices, mobile applications, encryption and digital rights management, electronic content delivery, and computer software. Jason’s clients range from very early startups to Fortune 500 companies.
His practice also involves intellectual property counseling, patent infringement and clearance analysis. Jason has extensive experience with patent litigation support and post-grant proceedings, such as inter partes review proceedings (“IPRs”) before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Additionally, he performs patent due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, and strategic investments.

- Represented GoPro in patent matters since its inception, including prosecuting its first patent application family that launched its billion dollar empire
- Performed the Intellectual Property due diligence in connection with GoPro’s IPO
- Represented Silver Peak Systems, Inc. in defending patent in inter partes review proceeding, only 2nd time PTAB has ruled in favor of Patent Owner when amending claims in IPR proceeding
- Represented Honda in drafting and prosecuting U.S. Patent # 8,880,221, named #1 in top 10 patents for 2014
Jason joined Fenwick & West as a patent agent in 2006 and became an associate in 2011. Prior to joining Fenwick & West, Jason worked as an engineer at Sandia National Laboratories.
