Fenwick Partner Ken Myers Named to Daily Journal's Top 40 Under 40

Mountain View, CA (May 25, 2016)– Fenwick & West is pleased to announce that the Daily Journal has honored corporate partner Ken Myers as one of the top 40 lawyers under age 40 in California. The annual list singles out lawyers for their impact on law, industry and society, as well as the legal community.

Myers, who focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, told the Journal that while every lawyer has to interpret and apply the law, negotiating transactions gives lawyers a unique opportunity to create it.

“It’s just fascinating,” Myers told the Journal, “essentially being able to write the private law between the parties leaves a lot of room for people on both sides to work through the issues. And, of course, there are the strategic aspects of negotiating those points.”

Myers advises leading U.S. and foreign technology, entertainment and life sciences companies on strategic transactions, including public and private mergers, investments, joint ventures, stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures. Nearly half of the deals on which he works are cross-border.

The Journal highlighted his recent work for Cisco in its $320 million acquisition of Israel-based Leaba Semiconductor as well as his representation of Ireland-based King Digital Entertainment in their $5.9 billion acquisition by Activision Blizzard. The acquisition made Activision Blizzard the largest game network in the world, according to a statement released by the company.

In 2014, Myers and a Fenwick team also served as counsel to the special committee of the board of directors of Giant Interactive Group Inc. in Giant’s $3 billion going-private transaction, which was recognized as The American Lawyer’s China’s Global M&A Deal of the Year, the China Law Business Journal Deal of the Year and Global M&A Network’s Asia Pacific Private Equity Deal of the Year. He also regularly advises Facebook in its acquisitions, including the company’s $2 billion acquisition of virtual reality leader Oculus VR.

Myers was elected partner in 2015, effective January 1, 2016. He is among the core team of partners launching Fenwick’s recently announced New York office. Myers and six other attorneys will anchor the office, which seeks to better serve the region’s technology and life sciences investors and to better support the firm’s growing client base there.
