Nicholas Plassaras focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and counseling, with an emphasis on copyright, trademark, false advertising, and right of publicity disputes for technology companies, particularly companies in the gaming industry. Nicholas successfully counsels clients through matters in both federal and state court, and has extensive experience resolving disputes early in the litigation cycle. He regularly advises clients on intellectual property protection, risk analysis, and litigation strategy.
As part of his counseling practice, Nicholas advises gaming companies on intellectual property protections related to the development and marketing of mobile, online, and console games. He also advises gaming clients on copyright registration matters. Nicholas is an active member of the Video Game Bar Association and regularly helps prepare guest lectures and presentations related to video game law. In 2015, Nicholas published Copyrighting Player-Generated Content in Video Games in VentureBeat with co-author and partner Jennifer Lloyd Kelly.
While attending law school, Nicholas was Executive Comments Editor for the Chicago Journal of International Law and served as a Judicial Extern to Chief Judge Alex Kozinski for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. During his undergrad, Nicholas served as Editor for the UC Irvine Undergraduate Law Journal.
