Fenwick Recognized as Leading Tech IP Firm at “Forefront of the Industry”

Managing Intellectual Property notes that Fenwick "represents some of the leading high-technology and life sciences clients with their IP requirements."

Mountain View, CA (May 27, 2015) – Fenwick & West is pleased to announce that Fenwick's intellectual property practice has received national recognition from Managing Intellectual Property's IP Stars for the third year-in-a-row. Trademark chair Sally Abel, IP litigation partners Andrew Bridges and Jed Wakefield, IP counseling partner David Hayes, patent attorneys Bob Hulse and Michael Shuster and patent litigation partner David Tellekson are also recognized as leading IP attorneys.

"For more than 40 years, Fenwick & West has been at the forefront of the industry and today represents some of the leading high-technology and life sciences clients with their IP requirements," MIP noted in a profile of the firm.

IP Stars ranks Fenwick in its top tiers nationally in the Copyright, Trademark Contentious, Patent Contentious, Patent Prosecution, Trademark Prosecution and Bio/Life Sciences categories, and says the firm "boast[s] one of the largest patent prosecution practices" in the country.

In California, the firm's IP practice is recognized in the top tier in every category, including Copyright, Patent Contentious, Patent Prosecution, Trademark Contentious and Trademark Prosecution, and a competitor notes that the firm is "very popular" among Silicon Valley companies.

Praising Fenwick's "impressive client list," the 2015 edition of IP Stars adds that the firm's clients include "such household brand names as Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon, which the full-service firm represents in a range of litigation, prosecution, and transactional matters." It also points out that Fenwick advises "start-up clients that are later involved in multimillion-dollar acquisitions by juggernauts such as Google, Oracle, and AOL."

The guide recognized the following lawyers as national and state leaders in their fields:

  • Sally Abel (trademark chair)
  • Andrew Bridges (copyright and trademark litigation partner)
  • David Hayes (IP partner)
  • Bob Hulse (patent prosecution partner)
  • John McNelis (patent chair)
  • Michael Shuster (life sciences industry co-chair, patent partner)
  • David Tellekson (patent litigation partner)
  • Jed Wakefield (IP and commercial litigation chair)

IP Stars recognizes leading law firms that have a strong national IP reputation and brand, consistently represent leading industry names and handle high-stakes matters in multiple jurisdictions. Its annual review is based on interviews and surveys of clients, in-house counsel and other attorneys and additional outside research.
