Fenwick Partner Jonathan Millard: Top Business Leader Under 40

Fenwick & West technology transactions partner Jonathan Millard was profiled by the San Francisco Business Times as one of only three lawyers on the publication’s list of exceptional Bay Area business leaders making significant contributions to their industries and communities.

With a focus on the intellectual property aspects of corporate transactions, Millard has become “one of the region’s go-to attorneys for technology companies undertaking complex business transactions,” the San Francisco Business Times said in his profile. Millard, who was promoted to partner at Fenwick in January 2017, also advises on a broad range of commercial agreements for clients in the technology and life sciences industries. He also counsels clients on privacy issues, especially in the context of corporate acquisitions and international data transfers.

A member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and a Certified Information Privacy Professional, Millard regularly writes articles on U.S. and international business, regulatory and privacy developments and helped author the Fenwick Privacy Bulletin - Fall 2016.

The San Francisco Business Times highlighted Millard’s work on more than 10 acquisitions for Cisco, most recently its $1.4 billion purchase of Jasper Technologies. He is also noted for leading the Fenwick IP team in representing Shanghai Giant Network Technology Co. and a buyer group in the consortium’s $4.4 billion acquisition of Caesars Interactive Entertainment gaming business Playtika—one of the largest mobile gaming acquisitions in history.

The UK native told the San Francisco Business Times that his first job was packing hot aluminum in a factory. Before joining Fenwick, Millard practiced in the technology transactions group of Allen & Overy in London and New York. Now a San Francisco resident and ardent surfer (if admittedly bad at it), Millard says his greatest regret was not moving to California sooner.
