Robert Hulse Reflects on 250 Years of IP Law and What's Next with Managing IP
Intellectual property has shifted from defensive mechanism to a proactive economic engine, recasting IP lawyers as critical business advisors, Fenwick's patents and emerging technologies co-lead Robert Hulse told Managing IP in a recent article reflecting on 250 years of U.S. IP law.
"I cringe if someone says, 'you're a patent attorney' because I'm not just a patent attorney. I write patents, but I'm also an IP business counsellor," Hulse told the outlet.
Clients are looking for commercial and strategic advice, not just traditional protection and enforcement; and they are looking to counsel much earlier in the innovation lifecycle, Managing IP reported.
