Fenwick tax lawyer Julia Ushakova-Stein has been named among the nation’s top 40 lawyers under 40 by the American Bar Association on its 2018 On the Rise List.
Ushakova-Stein is one of only four tax lawyers honored on the list this year, and one of just eight California-based lawyers.
The On the Rise list provides national recognition for lawyers who exemplify a broad range of high achievement, innovation, vision, leadership, and legal and community service.
Ushakova-Stein focuses her practice on U.S. tax planning and tax controversy matters. She regularly advises major companies from a diverse set of industries and geographic areas in highly sophisticated domestic and international tax planning that often involve many billions of dollars.
“Julia is a core part of Fenwick’s tax practice, and we are honored by this recognition which testifies to the strength of her work for some of the world’s leading companies,” Fenwick tax group chair Adam Halpern said. “The creativity, deep business sense, and high level of client service that she brings is truly outstanding.”
Ushakova-Stein was the sole winner of Euromoney’s Women in Business Law Americas Rising Star in Tax award in 2017. She also appears in Euromoney’s 2017 Expert Guides: Rising Stars in the tax category and International Tax Review’s 2017 Women in Tax Leaders.
Additionally, Ushakova-Stein has spoken on U.S. corporate and international tax issues at major tax conferences including the annual meeting of the USA Branch of the International Fiscal Association and the International Tax Review’s London Transfer Pricing Forum. She has also co-authored several noteworthy articles in prestigious journals and legal publications.
