Michael supports U.S. and multinational companies in matters related to export controls and trade compliance, helping them navigate complex regulatory frameworks, particularly those related to encryption, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies.

Michael regularly works on matters involving the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and Committee of Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).

Prior to joining Fenwick, Michael served for 21 years as an Electrical Engineer and Licensing Officer for the U.S. Department of Commerce. In his role, he was responsible for reviewing and adjudicating export and technology transfer applications, supporting criminal investigations into the illegal trafficking of controlled technology, and providing expert witness testimony in criminal trials involving information technology.
