Fenwick partner Vejay Lalla will be speaking on a panel titled "Author! Author? What Is An “Author” and How Can AI Be One?" during The Copyright Society's 14th annual conference on September 14, 2023.
The panel will explore:
- Recent high-profile rejections by the Copyright Office of works created in whole or in part using artificial intelligence tools
- What it means to be an "author" and if an "author" must be human
- Doctrines adopted by various courts over the years to attempt to define an author
- How international approaches to AI authorship rights, such as that of the UK, compare to that of the U.S. Copyright office
